              Sonatrach (Algeria)

Electrical supply for the Ourhoud oilfield

              Success Story: Oil & Gas

              I. CUSTOMER ENVIRONMENT / PROJECT CONTEXT

              Customer profile:

              • The Ourhoud site, 300 km from Hassi Messaoud and 1200 km south-east of Alger, is one of the largest oil fields discovered in Algeria over the past few years.
              • This reserve, 20 km long and 4 km wide, should produce 230,000 barrels per day for 25 years.
              • The engineers of the Joint Venture between Japan Gazoline Corporation (JGC) and INITEC were the contractors for fitting out the oilfield for the Algerian company Sonatrach and 7 foreign companies.

              Customer objective and constraints:

              • Supply the site with all the electrical equipment and the control-command system required for starting operation at the beginning of 2003.
              • Entrust the installation of this equipment to a manufacturer with a worldwide reputation and who is recognised in the petrochemical industry.

              II. SOLUTION IMPLEMENTATION

              Implementation methodology (main phases):

For this project, Schneider Electric provided JGC and INITEC with an offer perfectly adapted to the requirements of an oilfield site whilst respecting energy availability and quality constraints:

              • carrying out the electrical network studies,
              • defining and choosing the equipment,
              • supplying the equipment for the electrical distribution and the control-command system,
              • supervising the commissioning,
              • testing and putting into service.
