Customer profile:

AVU is a local utility serving 155.000 people and numerous companies in the West of Germany. with energy and water.  Key drinking water figures: 8 Mio m3 / year, 2 water treatmant plants, 9 water storage facilities and more than 1.000 km pipes with 10 pumping stations.

 

Customer objective and constraints:

Modernisation of control system of water treatment plant Roland

Objectives:
- Carry out all work during without interruption of water supply
- Limit the maximum production interruption to 4 - 6 hours
- All work without influencing the water quality

Modernisation goals:
- Increase availibility through redundant control area
- Reduce the number of network interfaces
- Modification and extension of plc program without stoping the control system

- Exklusive use of standard fieldbus protocolls

- Improvements of remote control and implementation of remote maintenance option
- Simplification of field service

Modicon Quantum Hot-Standby System giving high availibility and allowing to test software modifications without interrupting the control system. 
Profibus network to connect field devices
Wade Telemetry System with IEC 870-5 101 connection to Scada system
Ethernet TCP/IP network
Pump control via Altistart softstarters.
